In the wake of purchases of Veolia North America’s district energy assets in the United States, Antin Infrastructure Partners announced the creation of a new brand, Vicinity Energie. Vicinity Power, which was recently launched in 2010, consists of central power plants and related distribution networks providing steam or hot water, cold water and electricity in 13 major cities. It is North America’s largest supplier of district electricity.
Businesses headquartered in Massachusetts and with their main networks located in downtown Philadelphian, Chicago, Baltimore, and Kansas City, Vicinity Energy supplies energy and related services to more than 200 million square feet of building space. The vicinity is a greener option for conventional heating/cooling / electric supplies, supplied by over 400 megawatts (MW) combined heat and power (CHP) of energy, and its systems are the most powerful large generators in their respective power grids.
Thanks to its power and efficiency, industries such as biotechnology and biomedicine use district energy technology. Heating, cooling, humidification, and sterilization of equipment are essential for patient clinical and surgical attention in medical centers and hospitals. Commercial property owners can take energy risks by acquiring useful facilities like parking facilities and rooftops. Developers should expect an expedited allocation, which does not need onsite combustion, with a low carbon solution.
Antin’s first major energy purchase in North America is the closing of this transaction, announced in July and completed on 30 December 2012. The financial support of the infrastructure investment group, together with the seasoned Vicinity team, will help the company develop its environmentally friendly products and services more rapidly.
