The United Arab Emirates has always been seen as a petroleum-based economy and also a tourism-based in the recent years.
As the world is making its shift towards clean energy, the UAE is also making its way in the direction of clean energy. Nuclear energy is considered to be clean energy although there are many disagreements on this claim but that is a topic for another discussion for some other day, for now, we will consider it as a clean energy option. The United Arab Emirates has been building its own Nuclear power plant for quite some time now and it is expected to be operational by early 2020. This plant has seen many ups and downs and also faced some opposition by the common masses as they witnessed the 2011 Japan’s Fukushima disaster and were threatened by the risks of nuclear energy. UAE is very proud of its peaceful power program and it is now advertising it as an amazing source of energy expected to fulfill 25 percent of the energy consumption of the country. Nuclear is a proven technology. It competes commercially and environmentally with our other options. That’s why the government decided to evaluate it and implement it further stated Hamad Alkaabi, the UAE’s permanent representative to the Vienna-based UN nuclear watch.
UAE with this nuclear plant has proved that not only the huge power rich economies can establish these kinds of plants but also economies who are determined and who properly follow the rules of nuclear management can do so. This new step in the UAE’s energy sector has shown the world that the UAE is capable of making great strides in the energy sector.
