ABU DHABI: Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry, stated that the UAE is a leading player in the worldwide energy sector.
He credited this to its role in finding creative answers to the challenges of energy sustainability and the variation of sources of energy, as well as the construction of a new energy landscape for sustainability and conservation of the environment.
On World Energy Day 2019, an initiative permitted by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Al Mazrouei in a speech stated, “With 54 countries from around the sphere under Dubai Declaration on 22nd October, the UAE is eager to diversify its foundations of energy and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in order to improve the competitiveness of the country and attain the happiness of society by accepting the ideas of sustainable development.”
He stressed that the vision of the UAE’s leadership has played an essential role in achieving sustainable development and dropping the carbon footprint, under the outline of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, which targets to reduce carbon emissions from electricity creation by 70 percent over the next three decades and produce 50 percent of energy through green sources.
Al Mazrouei also pointed out that the Ministry of Energy and Industry, in collaboration with its partners, released several initiatives and programs to ingrain the culture of explaining the consumption of resources into society, as well as to inspire members of the community to accept a responsible lifestyle in relations of energy consumption.
The day is marked on 22nd October each year.
