Simply Blue Energy has joined with Sweden-based CorPower Ocean to develop wave energy projects off the coasts of the UK and Ireland. Umar Ali finds out more about their schemes to unlock wave energy near the British Isles.
The latest attempt at revealing the potential of wave energy in the UK is a Strategic Collaboration Agreement amongst UK-based offshore wind and wave energy specialist Simply Blue Energy and Swedish wave energy developer CorPower Ocean. The collaboration is fixated on developing a number of significant wave energy plans off the coast of the UK and Ireland.
Through this collaboration CorPower will offer Simply Blue with its wave energy technologies to deploy in the development areas Simply Blue has identified, with an objective to start generating and exporting electricity by 2024.
Simply Blue will in turn provide its exclusive expertise, investigating the deployment of combined wave and wind energy farms and using its present comprehensive research to identify the most viable wave schemes.
Simply Blue CEO Sam Roch-Perks is optimistic that the technology is up to the task.
“We have functioned with the team at CorPower over the last two and a half years and they have, during this time, committed to us that they have the ability to bring their technology to the necessary levels of technical readiness within the timeframes we have decided.
“We are also excited to explore the likelihood of combining floating wind and wave energy to bring balance to the grid which is so important if we are to surge the reliability and feasibility of renewable energy”.
