Cyber-security is one of the toughest task to contain and flourish and the efficiency is not tested until and unless there is an attack to expose the system from outside in. This is what happened to the students and staff of Justus Liebig University in Germany who had to come to the university to retake the passwords of their email by paper method after the university faced a hacking marathon by a group of hackers and leaked the password of all the students and staff personnel in the university, all 38,000 of them. The students were on for a hack as well as fishing attacks towards their data that was stored with their drive space allotted with the email and it contained critical data which can be misused for the damage to be imparted on the student’s profiles or the career of those whose data has been stolen.
The students and the staffers of the Justus Liebig University didn’t protest the change into heir password, and we’re asked to queue up in lines to get their new safety patched passwords which have already been updated on their servers through which the students can access and change their personal information according to what they think is the best way to defend themselves against such attacks. This breach has also opened scope for debate on how secure the universities around the world are to fight against Cyber attacks and thus ensure that the authority of the university is not misused as a functional parameter to sustain damageable repercussions in the society along the lines of terrorism and other anti-social aspects.
