Bender SunWave’s first installation has just finished at a townhouse outside of Stockholm. Bender SunWave are fully integrated solar panels with roof tiles and the result of a partnership between Midsummer, leader in solar energy technology, and Sweden’s leading roof manufacturer Benders. “You would never believe that there are solar panels on the roof if you didn’t know it looks like just any gorgeous shingled roof,” Benders CEO Ove Bender said.
In May last year, Midsummer announced a new and unique solar panel solution developed specifically for the most popular 3-barrel roof tile in Sweden, the Bender Palma. Since October, deliveries of customized solar panels that exactly follow the shape of these roof tiles have flown from the recently opened Midsummer production plant at its headquarters in Järfälla just north of Stockholm, Sweden.
“Interest has been overwhelming for Bender SunWave and we are excited to announce the very first successful installation now,” said Ove Bender, CEO, Benders, “The design was straight forward and trouble-free and the shingled roof blends in extremely well in the neighborhood. The panels are so unobtrusive that you wouldn’t believe solar panels on such a beautiful roof are actually there!”
Under the brand Bender SunWave, the optimized solar panels are put onto the market by Benders and are mounted as easily on a current roof as on a new roof, resulting in fully integrated solar panels that are not apparent or noticeable in any other way except turning the roof into an energy producer.
“The great interest for Palema SunWave and our other building-integrated solar products shows that solar panels are becoming like any other building material with natural high expectations in terms of both technical performance and aesthetics,” said Sven Lindström, CEO, Midsummer.
The collaboration with Benders is part of Midsummer’s new strategy for designing and manufacturing solar panels both in-house and through contract manufacturers for sale to chosen partners, in addition to the core business of supplying solar cell manufacturing equipment for the company.
Midsummer’s DUO device has taken the position of being the most popular production method in the world for versatile CIGS solar cells. Today, Midsummer is the world leader in producing lightweight, flexible, robust solar panels with high energy density.
